The Diesel Island.

One day, Mr D (Laurent Dubois) contact Mr B (Fabien Barral) and told him “I like what you do, I can do nice print on fabric, we should work together”… They found an amazing playground, the Excelsior Latin Hôtel in Paris who need to be decorated. Mr B creates a serie of images that Mr D prints in large size… And then they share good dinners and talk about doing cushions, wall prints… and this is just the beginning…

Salone 2011 peak!

Lausanne based Big-Game studio created a series of cork floating boats for the Portuguese company Materia. The toys, simply titled ‘Bote’ are made of a cork base and a plastic mast or cabin that can be easily changed. A perfect kid’s gift now the summer is approaching fast.

The boats will be exhibited during I Saloni 2011, at Via San Marco 38, Milan, April 12–17.

Adega Mayor

Portuguese architect and Pritzker laureate Álvaro Siza Vieira designed this winery at Campo Maior, Portugal, in 2007.

The building is an imposing, yet understated figure sitting atop a gentle slope amid the wide open plain of the vineyard. Its 120m x 50m volume is composed of elementary geometrical shapes and similarly basic construction materials.

This is “silent” architecture at its best.

Straight forward design has been highly influenced by Japanese traditional design and architecture.
British architect John Pawson (one of my biggest influences) has designed a ribbon to support the disaster relief effort, following the earthquake and tsunami, earlier this month. Electronic version of the design is available to download for attachment to websites and emails. A donation can be made online.
I would like to express my love, respect and admiration to the Japanese population. Stay strong!

An all-time favourite band.  Love almost everything they do.

This is the Square Meal, a dog feeder to complement your minimalist interior. It is a design by Chicago-based minimalist furniture designer Luke Wong.

The bowl hangs in a stainless steel frame, with a matte black or white acrylic top.

The SquareMeal is produced by Wong’s side-company Doca Pet.

Space For Imagination

Pastoe, the Dutch furniture manufacturer, recently published the book “Vision – Space for Imagination” to mark the 25th anniversary of the Vision range of cabinets.

Vision, created by Pierre Mazairac and Karel Boonzaaijer, is a cabinet composed of any number of boxes in various sizes. The cabinet is simple, without handles or grips, but contains a smart pressure-release mechanism borrowed from the car manufacturing industry.

We wanted something that would exist in a home like a wall that plays with space, volume and line.

At first some people thought the design was cold and ugly, but Mazairac and Boonzaaijer were confident about their product. It’s been twenty-five years and it’s still going strong, Boonzaaijer says.

Space for Imagination is written by Karel Boonzaaijer in association with Ilka Helmig and Johannes Bergerhausen. You order the book under ISBN number 978-90-5856-357-6.
